Staff from Ringwood law firm Ellis Jones raise thousands for Julia’s House with skydive

HIGH-FLYING staff from a Ringwood-based solicitors’ firm raised more than £4,000 for a children’s hospice by taking on a skydive challenge.

Staff from Ellis Jones took the plunge at Netheravon, the base of not-for-profit organisation the Army Parachute Association, near Salisbury.

The intrepid fundraisers chose to support Julia’s House, which provides support for families caring for a child with a life-limiting or life-threatening condition.

This includes providing frequent and regular help in their own homes, in the community or at its hospices.

They jumped from a modern Cessna Caravan aircraft at 13,500ft – more than two miles up – with free-fall taking about 45 seconds at speeds of up to 120mph.

Those taking part included partner and head of dispute resolution Lauren Day, marketing and events manager Georgina Wright, legal placement student Howard Hasan, legal assistant Sandra Dakanyte and administration assistant Sam Smith.

The team were also joined by friend Chris Holt and Sian Smith, wife of Ellis Jones’ managing partner Nigel Smith.

Team captain Georgina said: “It was an absolutely exhilarating experience. We all had a fantastic time and the atmosphere was electric.

“Everyone was very nervous and excited in the build-up but all were so thrilled afterwards.”

The team has so far raised £4,611 for charity.

Georgina added: “It was so heartening that we were able to raise such a good amount for this brilliant charity.

“Julia’s House delivers practical and emotional support for families that are facing unimaginable heartbreak.”

The charity’s community fundraising assistant Alex Wilcox added: “We are indebted to the team from Ellis Jones and their supporters for such generosity.

“We rely on public donations, fundraising and legacies for 95% of the money needed to run our vital service to ensure every family supported by Julia’s House receives totally bespoke care.”
