Space themed 10-day carnival programme kicks off in Sway
Talent shows, litter picks, scarecrow trails and processions are all on the agenda as Sway’s popular 10-day carnival programme begins today (Friday).
Back to its pre-pandemic scale – the popular celebration features more than 20 activities to get the whole community involved, culminating with a carnival procession and party on the Jubilee Fields on Saturday 8th July.
This year’s ‘Up and Beyond’ theme takes inspiration from space travel, and residents are invited to join the fun with a scarecrow and garden decoration trail running for the duration. Today (Friday) families can also join an afternoon treasure hunt beginning at the Hare and Hounds at 5.30pm.
The village fete and dog show will get under way tomorrow from 11am to 3pm, with a community talent show set to take place at the village hall from 5.45pm and a children’s fun run at 11.15am.
On Sunday (2nd July) a family fun craft afternoon from 1pm to 5pm will get under way at in the Church Room and the SpudWorks Garden. Those looking for a more relaxing afternoon can head to Sway Manor from 3pm for Jazz on the Lawn.
On Monday 4th, the popular Beetle Drive will be at the village hall from 6.30pm, and on Tuesday The Silver Hind pub will hold an Independence Day celebration.
Wednesday evening will see a cheese and wine night pop-up at the village hall from 7.30pm
A children’s disco will take place at the village hall at 4.30pm on Thursday (6th) followed by a pub quiz at the Hare and Hounds at 8pm.
On Friday 7th July will feature a children’s screening of Lyle Lyle Crocodile in the village hall from 4pm; followed by an adults only screening of sing-along Rocket Man at 7.30pm.
On the Saturday a village garage sale will be taking place at various locations around Sway from 8.30am.
The grand carnival procession will then assemble for judging at Stanford Rise by the village hall at 4pm, before setting off on a route through the village towards the Jubilee Fields. Later there will be a party with music, food and a bar at Jubilee Fields from 5pm.
The scarecrow trail will has a ‘Children’s Stories’ theme, with maps available from Sway News.
The celebrations will conclude on Sunday 9th July with a litter pick of the Jubilee Field at 10.30am, followed by a thanksgiving service at St Luke’s Church at midday, Boules at Sway Place at 2pm and a grand draw at 4pm.
