Strong enough to drag a 737? Have a go in the Dorset Plane Pull

THE fundraising Dorset Plane Pull, which challenges participants to haul a 35-tonne Boeing 737, is set for take-off.

Tasked to drag the passenger jet across 50 metres of runway at Bournemouth Airport in Hurn, people can sign up to compete in the Dorset Plane Pull to raise funds for the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance (HIOWAA).

Taking place on Monday 26th August, the event, which is now in its 11th year, has raised more than £130,000 for various charities throughout the region.

The plane pull is an opportunity for teams of colleagues, friends, family or individuals of up to 20 people to take part, with volunteers on hand to help out smaller teams on the day.

Community relationships manager at HIOWAA, Ian Browning, said: “We are incredibly excited to be taking part in our first ever plane pull challenge.

“Whether supporters want to test their strength or have a fun day out with the family cheering on participants, this bank holiday activity has it all.

“As a charity, we rely solely upon the generosity of our local community, and events such as the Dorset Plane Pull help to keep our life-saving service operational.”

The entry fee of £18 per person will go towards keeping Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance operational 365 days a year.

The minimum age to take part is 14 with anyone between the ages of 14 and 16 requiring permission from an adult. Limited spaces are available, with more than half the positions already filled.
