Hampshire Senior; Sway 0-1 Athletico Romsey

ATHLETICO ROMSEY picked up their first win of the season against a Sway side who had one of those days where it seemed as if they could play until next week and still not score.

Sway started brightly and saw a decent effort well saved after some lovely play that saw the ball plucked from the air and a shot hit on the turn. Soon after that a Sway man blocked a certain goal for his own side at the expense of a goal kick.

Despite the one way traffic, a wide effort and a couple of decent saves maintained parity between the two sides as the half-time whistle blew.

The second-half continued in a similar fashion to the first with Sway continuing to have chance after chance. The home side had an effort come off the post before having a chance to score from the spot after the referee awarded a soft penalty following a push in the area — Athletico’s charmed existence carried on and Sway placed it well wide.

With the clock winding down, Romsey were pinned in their own half and Sway had another effort come off the post.

Having offered nothing up front all game, a hopeful punt down the line caught Sway cold before Romsey’s winger beat his man and swung in a ball that deflected off Oliver before flying high and wide over the static Coombes to take an unlikely lead.

With 20 minutes still to go Sway re-doubled their efforts and Athletico sat deep defending for their lives with blocks and tackles flying in.

A superb double save and another miss saw the final whistle come and, somehow, the match ended in defeat for Sway with Athletico registering a single shot on target in the entire 95 minutes.
