Classic cars, entertainment and French cuisine as Lions Club of New Milton & District Town Show draws thousands of visitors
THOUSANDS flocked to New Milton’s recreation ground on Sunday for entertainment, continental cuisine and vintage motors.
The Lions Club of New Milton & District’s Town Show was hailed a success by organisers who believe it has raised “at least a large four-figure sum” for its local welfare fund.
Nearly 100 cars dating back to 1925 covered the green, off Whitefield Road, for the centrepiece classic car show.
A Jaguar Mk II won the ‘Concours D ’Elegance’ for best car in show, with its owner handed a unique trophy featuring three ‘Champion’ spark plugs, made by New Milton Men’s Shed.
The French market enjoyed a brisk trade, selling varied goods, including sausages and wine, as well as clothing.
More than 30 stalls from local groups and businesses also proved popular.
A line-up of local musical acts on the performance pavilion throughout the day included Lea Martin, Ukerjax, and Milton Ukulele Strummers Klub (MUSK).
There was also a Zumba display, before covers band Be More Dog rounded off the entertainment.
Attendees’ hungers and thirsts were sated by the Lions Club ladies, as well as Tasty Burger and the unique Prosecco Bottle Bar.
Lions club president Alan Watson said: “Yet again the good people of New Milton and the surrounding areas have come out in their thousands to support us, and more importantly to support our welfare funds.
“Last year the club gave donations to groups and individuals exceeding £10,000.
“The donations ranged from the provision of a baby changing table for the New Milton Youth Trust to a large donation to Oakhaven Hospice and the support of several local athletes to help them with their competition expenses.”
He added: “This huge turnout will help a lot in raising a similar amount for 2024/25 – to enable us to support as many of the requests that we get during the year as we can.”
Mr Watson hoped the latest successful event would inspire more people to join the club as volunteers.
The Lions’ last car boot sale of the year takes place at Fawcett’s Field from 7am to midday on Sunday 1st September, aiding Children in Need.
