The supermarket says it is taking precautionary action because the products "may contain pieces of plastic which makes them unsafe to eat".

Extra Special Apple and Pecan Crumble Mince Pies, Extra Special Extra Indulgent Mince Pies and Extra Special Crumble Top Mince Pies are the three affected.

Each box will contain four mince pies and have best-before dates of up to and including 13th December for the Apple and Pecan and Crumble Top and best-before dates of 28th December for the Extra Indulgent variety.

Signs have been put in supermarket aisles warning customers who bought the pies to not eat them but instead return them to their nearest Asda store for a full refund.

A receipt isn't required for customers to claim their money back.
