Sway junior councillors plea to Post Office to reinstate outlet
JUNIOR parish councillors in Sway have called on the Post Office to reinstate an outlet in the village after the existing branch closed.
Sway Newsagents in Station Road was recently sold by Janet Kirk to an unnamed firm which decided not to keep it running. The village’s Budgens store does not have a post office counter.
The Post Office said it would like to retain an outlet in Sway and welcomed any applications from potential retail partners interested in running a branch on its behalf.
The junior parish council has emailed its concerns to the Post Office, pointing out older residents go to Budgens to withdraw money and send parcels and questioned whether an outlet could be installed there.
“This is a big issue and needs to be changed for the good of the village,” the letter said. “We would like to inform you that lots of other people use it and it is a public service of great importance if people want to send things,” the letter said.
The youngsters also said that if there were no post office facilities in Sway residents might be tempted to use shops elsewhere.
