Mary Poppins in the Forest, produced by Sway Drama Club, highly commended in the NODA awards for the south-east
A SPECIAL production of Mary Poppins in the Forest produced by Sway Drama Club has been highly commended in the NODA awards for the south-east.
Mary Poppins in the Forest was written by village resident Simon Hanney, and featured a cast of members and creatives from four local drama groups.
Simon said: “As part of Sway Carnival, and after an absence of many years, Sway Drama Club decided to put on a brand new, never-been-seen-before production. Myself and my partner Clare wrote the new Mary Poppins adventure, inspired by the original PL Travers characters.”
The production became a family affair with Simon’s dog Wigwam and young daughter making their acting debuts.
Simon added: “We were competing against approximately 250 other groups and we were delighted have been recognised and awarded for our efforts, especially as one of the smaller clubs within the region which extends all the way to Kent and up to the outskirts of London.”
To celebrate this year’s Sway Carnival Week Simon and Clare have written a new play, Famous Five go to the Circus, inspired by the Enid Blyton books and characters. This will be performed at Sway Village Hall on 5th and 6th July.
