FIREFIGHTERS tackled a blaze which broke out at a derelict thatched cottage in the New Forest.

The alarm was raised around 3.20pm on Tuesday as flames spread through the roof of the property, which was under demolition, on Lyndhurst Road in Bransgore.

Fire crews from New Milton, Ringwood, Brockenhurst, Beaulieu and Romsey were joined by colleagues from Dorset in spending nearly three hours containing the incident.

The thatched roof was completely destroyed.

A Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson told the A&T it was believed the blaze had started accidentally and may have been caused by a nearby bonfire.
