New Forest District Council installs 41 electric vehicle charging points in drive to be carbon-neutral
MORE than 40 electric vehicle charging points have been installed across New Forest car parks.
This is part of New Forest District Council’s efforts to become carbon-neutral and comes as demand for new infrastructure rises with the number of environmentally friendly vehicles on the roads.
The council’s cabinet member for environment and sustainability, Cllr Geoffrey Blunden, said: “We are committed to tackling the climate emergency locally and by installing more charging points we’re working towards our goal of making the district carbon-neutral by 2030.
“This initiative will reduce carbon footprint in the New Forest, improve air quality and offer an amenity for those to charge their vehicle at convenient locations.
“Whilst climate change presents a challenge for us and our residents, through prompt action we can create opportunities and make a difference.”
Charging points can be found in the following car parks: Brookley Road in Brockenhurst; Roundhills in Fordingbridge; Jones Lane and New Road in Hythe; Barfields and Bath Road in Lymington; Gosport Lane in Lyndhurst; Osborne Road in New Milton, the Furlong in Ringwood; Westfield Road in Totton; Palace Lane in Beaulieu; Hurst Road East and Paddy’s Gap in Milford and Marine Drive West in Barton.
The council says it will monitor usage levels of the charging points as part of ongoing plans for further installations in other car parks it owns.
