FUN, foam and inflatables will be the order of the day as adventurous competitors are invited to take part in a special homage to popular television gameshow It's a Knockout.

Named after the primetime series which ran on BBC1 from 1966 to 1982, with annual specials until 1988, the contest will form the focal point of this year’s May Family Fun Day run by the Lions Club of New Milton.

Taking place on the recreation ground, off Whitefield Road, from 11am to 4pm on Saturday 25th May, the event will feature of wide range of activities, entertainment and stalls.

Teams of up to 10 people, as well as individuals, are being sought to compete on It’s a Knockout’s unique inflatable challenge course. Places have already been filling up, with teams taking part from across the New Forest and beyond.

Through sponsorship, competitors will have the opportunity to raise funds for their chosen charities or for any group projects.

Alan Watson, chairman of the Lions Club’s activities committee, said: “The return of an It’s a Knockout competition to New Milton after a good many years should provide a great spectacle and a lot of fun for everyone.

“The splashes and spills, the foam, the fun and the laughter, whether being involved or just watching, should really add to the atmosphere of this, the first major event on our recreation ground in 2019.”

Among the other attractions on offer at the fun day will be the traditional Fun Dog show organised for the Lions by the Barton-based Friendly Dog Club. Launching at midday, the contest will feature a variety of classes including best pedigree and scruffiest dog.

Owners should register their interest in entering their pooches beforehand, and the judges will select their show favourite when it ends at 1.35pm.

Activities for children will include a large funfair featuring inflatables, rides, trampolines and other amusements.

There will be many community group and commercial stalls, as well as a refreshment tent, a bar and a barbecue. Live entertainment will be performed on the green throughout the afternoon.

The New Milton and Barton branch of the RNLI will lay on a display of model lifeboats which were handmade by members of the Solent Radio Controlled Model Boat Club.

Other local organisations also attending the event include the New Milton Friends Group and the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust.
