Third application to turn former shop on Salisbury Road in Totton into block of flats

A DEVELOPER has made a third attempt to demolish a former shop with two flats above in Totton to build a new block of apartments.

The store in Salisbury Road was originally built in the 1930s but has been added to over the years.

In its place, applicant Jon Clarke wants to create four two-bedroom flats with another two one-bedroom apartments with parking and a bike store.

Two previous applications for seven apartments were refused in January and June last year over unsympathetic design, overshadowing neighbours and air quality concerns.

The submission to New Forest District Council said “careful consideration” has been given to planning policies to “minimise the impact on neighbouring properties amenity space”.

It also said the new flats will “benefit rather than harm the existing character of the area”.

It added the development has been “sympathetically designed” to blend in with neighbouring properties while “also creating a new architectural feature”.

NFDC is set to make a decision after the deadline for public comments on 17th February.
