FIREFIGHTERS tackled an early morning blaze in Fawley and reiterated warnings about barbecues and campfires.
The call was received at 5.40am of the fire at Fawley Inclosure, to which one appliance and a Land Rover were sent from Hardley fire station.
A social media post by the station this afternoon praised the Land Rover’s off-road capabilities “enabling our crews to contain the fire and stop it spreading underground”.
A hose reel jet, thermal imaging camera and more than 3,000 litres of water were used to put out the blaze.
A post on the station’s Facebook page added: “A small reminder on why campfires, barbecues, etc, are not allowed in the New Forest National Park.
“When not put out properly, this is the result.”
