East Boldre teens arrested after cyclist hurt in hit-and-run which brought down power lines in Twiggs Lane, Marchwood




THREE people have been arrested after a hit-and-run in Marchwood where a cyclist was hurt and power lines brought down.

Police and firefighters attended the incident in which a BMW 1 Series collided with the rider before hitting and damaging an electricity pole, exposing live wires.

The casualty, a local man in his 60s, suffered minor injuries, according to a Hampshire police spokesperson.

But the driver fled the scene of the incident, which took place in Twiggs Lane around 7.40pm on Monday.

However, officers tracked down three males in Manor Road, Dibden, a short time later, when they were allegedly attacked by two of them.

A 24-year-old man from Southampton was arrested on suspicion of driving a vehicle while unfit through drink or drugs.

Officers also detained two boys aged 16 and 17 from East Boldre on suspicion of assaulting an emergency service worker.

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks engineers isolated the power line at the crash scene as a team from Openreach helped ensure the road was safe.

A fire crew from Hardley also attended.
