Three-day weather warnings for thunder, wind and rain to hit New Forest and Christchurch

THE weekend's horrible weather is set to start this afternoon with high winds and thunder forecast locally.

The Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings for Friday through to Sunday, also throwing heavy rain into the mix.

The line-up is as follows:

  • Friday: wind and thunder
  • Saturday: thunder and heavy rain
  • Sunday: heavy rain
The weather warnings cover a vast area of southern UK

There also a flood warning in place from the Environment Agency for Hengistbury Head and Christchurch Harbour tonight (Friday).

The high winds are expected from 3pm today, leading to spray and large waves for coastal communities.

These will die down by tomorrow, when thunderstorms and heavy rain will take over. Lightning and large hail is possible, with up to 50mm expected in some spots.

Heavy rain will continue on Sunday, with the potential of up to 100m to hit some areas, the Met Office warns. This brings the risk of power cuts and flooding, with the chance some communities could be cut off.
