HISTORY was made at Fordingbridge Rugby Club last Saturday when four members of the same family took to the field together.

Fordingbridge chairman David Timms joined sons William, 23, George, 18, and Marcus, 17, in a second team clash against Tottonians third team who ply their trade two leagues higher.

Fordingbridge elected to take advantage of a strong tail wind and got off to a good start, pinning the visitors back. After just five minutes, pressure told and Jack Griffiths went over the line for the home side.

Fordingbridge grew in confidence and by half-time Dean Lewis, Tyler Rogers and two members of the Timms family, Will and George, had all added to the score.

Totton fought back early in the second half and claimed two tries before Jack Griffiths added a sixth for Fordingbridge. Zac Butler converted five out of the six tries to help Fordingbridge to a 40 point to 12 victory.

Whilst the youngest member of the family Marcus Timms didn’t add to his brothers’ tries, he did claim man of the match, a great start to his senior playing career.

Dad David tweeted: “Proud Dad takes to the field with all three sons after a 17 year wait.”

He later said: “The club is proud of its family orientated ethos and over the years has had several occasions where father and sons have played together.

“Our minis and youth sections are very strong and adding players all the time to our mainly home-grown squads.”
