Top-10 finish for King at Ironman World Championships

DIBDEN Purlieu resident Camille King has finished 10th in her category at the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii, USA.

King, who raced in the 40-44 ladies’ category, finished the event in 10 hours, 35 minutes and 30 seconds. She finished eight seconds behind 10th placed Manuella Suess from Germany, and Georgina Gadient claimed the category victory in 10:01:14.

Despite a slow start in the 2.4-mile swim, King pressed on and started to climb through the field. After the 112-mile bike stage, she jumped from 50th to 19th.

The event finished with a full marathon which King once again excelled in. She finished in 11th in her category and was the first British competitor over the line earning her 4,588 points in the overall standings.

King said after the race: “Straight after crossing that special line, I burst into tears. All my emotions were pouring out. Everything I needed was inside me, and it was there all along.

“As always, thanks to everyone who has contributed to getting me to the start line. The list is long, and this is definitely a team effort.”
