Ringwood school pupils hear from Punch Pub’s Louise Gallant what a great job a career in hospitality can be
PUPILS at Ringwood school were given a talk about careers in hospitality from a top pub executive who shared the many interesting moments such a job can have.
“There is also low awareness of the scope of career opportunities and progression paths in the sector,” she added.
Ringwood is one of the first schools in the UK to benefit from the new national Choose Hospitality programme.
Louise’s visit followed research published by Nestle Professional which revealed many have “negative stereotypes” about the industry having unskilled roles, a lack of careers and limited progression opportunities.
This resulted in many youngsters being put off pursuing a career in the sector despite 62% of those who do saying they “love” their jobs.
Louise said: “That’s one of the many reasons why I love my job, changing perceptions of hospitality careers for the better.”
She went on to tell pupils that there are career opportunities and progression paths in the work sector.
Louise said: “It was great to see such a positive response, with several students asking for more information about career opportunities.
“Our aim is to make an impact on young people’s lives and careers, so I urge schools and hospitality businesses alike to check out the Choose Hospitality Pledge to find out how they can make a difference.”
