Totton veteran distraught after burglars steal military medals

AN armed forces veteran has been left distraught after his military medals were taken during a burglary at his home.

Police were called to the 67-year-old’s property in Lydlynch Road, Totton, on Friday 8th February where they discovered entry had been forced via the back door between 5.40pm and 6pm.

The stolen items include a Northern Ireland General Service medal with clasp and a Long Service and Good Conduct medal with clasp, both with their miniature.

Hand tools kept in a red and black tool bag were also stolen along with bank cards and a Huawei tablet.

PC Lindsay Yates said: “As you can imagine, the loss of these military medals, which hold significant sentimental value, has been very upsetting for the victim and we would love to be able to reunite him with them if at all possible.

“So if you have been offered any medals for sale recently, please get in touch with us.

“We’re also keen to speak to anyone who may have seen someone acting suspiciously in the area at around the time of the burglary – it is a quiet cul-de-sac so someone may have seen something that seemed out of place.

“The tools were taken in a red and black tool bag, so if you saw anyone walking around the area with a bag matching this description let us know.”
