BCP Council open previously flooded Christchurch routes Stony Lane and Avon Causeway

Updates have been given on two Christchurch roads which had been closed since the torrential downpour more than a week ago.

As reported in the A&T, heavy rainfall across the New Forest and Christchurch on 4th January saw roads flooded and cars abandoned.

Two casualties of the extreme weather were Stony Lane under the rail bridge between Burton and Purewell Cross Roundabout, and the Avon Causeway which links the B3347 Christchurch Road and B3073 to Hurn and Christchurch town centre.

Despite BCP Council erecting signs closing the roads, motorists have been braving the depths, potentially invalidating any insurance claim should the flood waters damage their engines.

However, the council has given updates on the two routes, which were inspected today (Monday).

A spokesperson said: “Both are now passable, and roads have been reopened to public use.”
