Town's rubbish response prompts urgent call for litter-pickers

A SHORTAGE of volunteers has prompted an urgent appeal for people to take part in a major litter-picking event taking place in New Milton at the weekend.

The Lions Club of New Milton is coordinating the town’s part in the nationwide Keep Britain Tidy Spring Clean campaign, which will run on Saturday and Sunday 13th and 14th April.

However, the initiative has been hit by a disappointing response to its call for helpers, particularly for Saturday's 2pm-4pm session and Sunday morning’s session from 10am.

People who wish to volunteer for any of the sessions during the weekend, for which all the necessary equipment will be provided, are asked to register by completing the online form at www.newmilton.net/cleanup.html

The event is the first of two clean-ups being held in New Milton this year, with the second set to take place on Saturday and Sunday 6th and 7th July.

Coordinated by the New Milton Residents’ Association, this project will precede the town’s entry as nominated finalists in the Britain in Bloom 2019 contest’s town centre category, as well as the parallel South and South East in Bloom.

Registrations for the second event can be made using the same online form immediately after the April one has finished.
