A TRACTOR had to be brought in to help clear a huge pile of fly-tipped rubbish dumped in Calshot.

The waste included white goods, a vacuum cleaner and various large pieces of wood and plastic. It was found on land to the rear of Tristan Close on Sunday.

An investigation has been launched as the police collaborate with New Forest District Council in a bid to establish who was responsible.

The scale of the dump meant the clear-up operation was still being carried out two days later.

An NFDC spokesperson said on Tuesday: “We are aware of the large fly-tip in Calshot and are in the process of clearing and investigating.

“This is taking some time due to the volume of waste that has been illegally dumped which requires us to get a tractor in to remove it.”

A gallery of photographs of the waste was tweeted on the Waterside Police Twitter account, with the post urging people to “#RatOnARat” by coming forward if they know anything about it.

“Large amount of #FlyTipping found in #Calshot today by #PCSOHope spoiling #rural area of #NewForest,” the tweet said.

Anyone with information should contact Hampshire Police on 101 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
