A WEATHER warning for heavy rain, lightning and wind has been issued for the New Forest and Christchurch tomorrow (Tuesday).

The area has been included in a swathe of England and Wales forecast to be hit be-tween midnight and about 3pm by conditions that could cause flooding in some areas.

Up to 70mm could fall within the space of a few hours, potentially bringing damage to buildings, the hazard of deep waters, and cutting off communities.

There could also be disruption on the roads with closures and heavy spray, affecting drivers, buses and trains, as well as potential power cuts.

The lowest-level yellow alert was issued by the Met Office today, with the worst expected tomorrow morning.

A spokesperson said: “Spells of very heavy rain are expected to move north-eastwards across much of England and Wales during Tuesday.

“Whilst many areas will see some heavy rain with 15-30mm widely, some places may see up to 70mm, much of this in a relatively short space of time, typically less than six hours.

“Thunder and lightning is also possible along with strong gusty winds.”
