Trees in the spotlight at Exbury Gardens
THE secrets of trees will be explored in a series of workshops and events at Exbury Gardens this summer.
Visitors will have a unique opportunity to hear what goes on inside a tree as part of the Tree Listening Project, which uses highly sensitive microphones to make audible the movement of water as it travels up from the ground to the leaves. This runs until July 2nd.
Trees will also take centre stage in a two-day Tree Climbing competition on 17th and 18th June, when professional arborists will compete in a range of events as they reveal more about the skills involved in tree work.
As part of the event run by Christopher Hoare Tree Services, visitors will be able to try out a climbing wall and throw-line game. There will also be wood turning and wood carving demonstrations, showing how sustainably sourced wood is used in traditional craft.
Magnificent ‘veteran’ trees will be the focus of a garden tour hosted by the Exbury gardening team on 23rd June.
Exbury head gardener Tom Clark said: “We love trees at Exbury – they form the structure of our garden, sheltering lots of rare plants.
“They are really important in their own right too and we have some wonderful specimens from all over the world in our unique corner of the New Forest.”
