Tributes paid to landlord Simon Dawson of the Old Mill in Holbury following sudden death
TRIBUTES have been paid to the landlord of a Holbury pub, described as "the heart and soul" of the establishment, following his sudden death.
A statement issued by The Old Mill on Facebook broke the news of the death of Simon Dawson and said: "On behalf of the owners and staff, we are truly heartbroken at the tragic loss of our friend and manager Simon.
"He has left us all too soon and we are going to miss him beyond words. He truly was the heart and soul of The Old Mill. RIP dear friend."
Hampshire police confirmed officers were called following the discovery of the body of a man in his 40s at an address Lime Kiln Lane at around 1pm on Monday 12th July.
His death was not being treated as suspicious, and a file is being prepared for the coroner.
A force spokesperson said: "The man’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers."
Commenting on Facebook, one regular wrote: "A huge loss to The Old Mill family and community. My heartfelt condolences to all his family, friends and colleagues past and present, during this difficult time.
"Rest easy Simon and be proud of the lasting legacy you have left."
Another added: "A good friend to everyone both sides of the bar – even when we acted like eejits. You'll be sorely missed by all who knew you."
A colleague also paid tribute and wrote: "Simon was more than just my manager, you were a dear friend for nine years.
"Working together [on] Sunday and seeing you so excited for the England game will be the best last memory I will cherish. I will miss you so much."
