“A GREAT lover of life… taken far too soon.” These were the words of a devastated family as they paid tribute to a father and grandfather who died after a two-vehicle crash on the A338.

Malcolm Reynolds (82), of Allen Water Drive, Fordingbridge, had been driving a white Toyota Aygo when it collided with a red Vauxhall Astra on the spur road between Breamore and Downton just after 2.20pm last Friday.

He was taken by ambulance to hospital, but was pronounced dead a short time later.

The Vauxhall’s driver, a 30-year-old man, was injured.

In a statement released through Hampshire police, Mr Reynolds’ family fondly remembered a “quiet and unassuming man” with a “quick wit”.

“Malcolm was a wonderful father and much-loved grandfather,” they said.

“He took great pleasure in the company of his friends and family and, although on the surface a quiet and unassuming man, he had a great love of storytelling and an – often unexpectedly – quick wit.

“His gentleness and kindness was appreciated by all who knew him.

“He led an active life with a wide circle of friends stretching from his school days, to former work colleagues and most recently his yoga club in Fordingbridge. He was also a member of Kinson Conservative Club.”

The statement added: “A great lover of life, Malcolm was taken far too soon, we are devastated by this sudden loss. He will be sorely missed by many, especially his children and grandchildren.”

Mr Reynolds leaves behind siblings Keith, Dennis, Norman and Sue; and children Hannah and James. He is also survived by three grandchildren, and his companion Barbara.

Investigations into the collision are continuing, and police are urging those with information or dash cam footage to come forward.
