Two arrested after man seriously hurt in 'hammer attack'

TWO people were arrested after a man was badly hurt in an alleged hammer attack in a Calmore street yesterday afternoon (Thursday).

Paramedics alerted police as they responded to reports the tool had been used to assault a man shortly after 4pm in Calmore Drive.

The 23-year-old victim was taken by ambulance to Southampton General Hospital with injuries described by Hampshire police as “serious, but not life-threatening”.

Both suspects were still being held in custody as investigations continued.

“A 23-year-old man was taken to Southampton General Hospital with serious, but not life-threatening injuries.

“A man, aged 37, has been arrested on suspicion of GBH and another man, aged 44 and from Hythe, has been arrested on suspicion of obstructing the course of public justice. Both remain in custody at this time.”

Confirming a hammer was reported to have been involved in the incident, the spokesperson added: “Enquiries are ongoing.”
