Fireworks displays in Hythe and Boldre cancelled due to heavy rainfall

TWO fireworks displays due to be held in Hythe and Boldre have been cancelled due to the recent bad weather.

The display at Ewart Recreation ground in Hythe was due to take place this evening (Thursday) from 5pm.

Organisers Hythe Primary School said: "Unfortunately due to last night's rain – 26mm overnight – we are very, very sorry to announce that we have had to cancel this year’s Hythe community fireworks.

"The ground has now become waterlogged and means that the site just isn’t safe for the access of emergency vehicles.

"As a charity we will be making a loss on this event, so the Friends of Hythe would be very grateful if you would like to turn your ticket purchase in to a donation. However if you would like a refund, we will post how to do so tomorrow."

A display that was due to be held at Strawberry Fields in Boldre on Saturday evening has also been cancelled.

Organisers said: "We are absolutely gutted to inform you that this years New Forest fireworks night has been cancelled.

"The storm which has hit us these past few days has caused a lot of damage to the grounds [and] structures on the grounds and destroyed some attractions/vendors which were set to appear at this years event. The heavy rain fall has also waterlogged the fields, adding to the already far from ideal conditions.

"The team have done their absolute best to try and ensure a safe event could take place but it simply has not been possible. Safety is of the utmost importance to us and we hope you understand the decision. We wanted to make this decision as soon as possible to allow you to make other arrangements."

Tickets for the event, which was planned to include live music, a bonfire and funfair, will be automatically refunded, organisers confirmed.
