Van driver fined after knocking cyclist off bike between Church Hill and High Street in Milford
A youngster was injured after being knocked from his bike when a van driver opened his door without looking.
The motorist was given an on-the-spot fine after the incident in Milford, between Church Hill and High Street, at around 8.45pm on Monday.
The 14-year-old local boy suffered minor injuries.
The incident was recounted in a Facebook post by roads policing officers as a warning to fellow motorists to adhere to guidance in the Highway Code.
It said: “The Highway Code was updated in January 2022. It now says, ‘Where people driving or passengers in a vehicle are able to do so, they should open the door using their hand on the opposite side to the door they are opening. For example, using their left hand to open a door on their right-hand side’.
“After speaking to the injured cyclist, the driver of the van received a fixed penalty notice.
“Always check over your shoulders and check your mirrors before exiting a vehicle.”
