Video: Firefighters battle flames engulfing three cars on Kings Close in Lyndhurst
A PASSER-BY captured the dramatic moment flames erupted from a car before spreading to two others in “chaotic scenes” near the centre of Lyndhurst.
The A&T reader said she had shouted at the Jaguar’s driver to get out after he pulled into Kings Close, off the A337 Romsey Road as smoke started billowing from it.
Called out just after 3pm last Friday, firefighters from Totton, Redbridge and St Mary’s arrived to find the inferno by then engulfing three vehicles.
Images from the scene show it sent huge plumes of black smoke into the air.
Recalling the moment the smoking car pulled over, the witness said: “I was right there and immediately saw flames under the car.
“I ran over and shouted to the driver to get out. He got out grabbing a few possessions and within seconds the car burst into flames.
“I rang the emergency services, shouting at the man to stand back as he was getting too close to the car – it was a diesel and I didn’t know if it would explode.
“It took a while for the fire engine to arrive as it was coming from Totton and Redbridge, I believe.
She added: “Chaotic scenes on the busy Lyndhurst junction.”
A Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson told the A&T no injuries were reported as a result of the incident, adding tarmac on the road needed to be repaired by Highways England engineers.
