At least half a dozen engines attended, along with several support vehicles after the fire service was alerted at 7.35pm.

Part of Burnt House Lane was closed to traffic while the firefighters were at the scene, and residents were warned to close doors and windows due to the smoke.

A spokesperson for Hampshire fire service said: “Firefighters are tackling a fire involving a large area of woodland on the border of Hampshire and Dorset in Bransgore.

“Nearby residents are advised to close doors and windows due to the smoke in the area.

“There are a large number of fire engines in attendance so please avoid the area around Burley Road.

“Crews from New Milton, Lymington, Fordingbridge, Eastleigh and Beaulieu were first called at 7.35pm and are working alongside teams from Dorset and Wiltshire FRS.

“Using water carriers and Land Rovers, firefighters are working to surround and stop the blaze.”
