Fawley Parish Council saves Fawley Show by rolling it into Armed Forces Day
A village’s annual show has been saved after the parish council stepped in.
Earlier this year it was announced the Fawley Show would be axed due to rising costs – but the event will now be combined another local celebration.
Fawley Parish Council’s acting projects, events and communications officer, Helen Bradley, said: “The Fawley Show, which has been running for several years, has unfortunately been a victim of its own success.
“Due to the high costs of putting on the show, it was announced earlier in the year that it would be closing.
“However, Fawley Parish Council has now stepped in and invited the Fawley Show team to bring the "heart" of the show to Armed Forces Day.
“This collaboration means that the show will be even more spectacular than usual.
“This year's event promises to be the biggest yet, with a wide range of activities and attractions for all ages.”
This year there will be a chance to ride HMS Sultan’s Super Sentinel Steam Wagon and the highlight of the day, weather permitting, will be a flypast at about 1.38pm by a Supermarine Spitfire.
The Historic Army Aircraft Flight group will showcase a Scout and a Sioux helicopter as part of a display of military and classic vehicles, including the famous film Volkswagen Beetle Herbie.
There will be live music from bands, including Wire JD, Plus One, Junkyard Dogs, Davey Jones Locker, and Soulcatchers. There will also be fun activities for the kids including a funfair, model boats, a craft market and a petting farm.
Food and drink will be on sale and people can bring their own picnics.
Ms Bradley added: “The day is a celebration of our Armed Forces, past and present, and the collaboration with Fawley Show brings it close to home as a way for veterans to pay their respects and remember the pilots laid to rest in Fawley Church.”
The event runs on Saturday 17th June from 11am to 5pm as part of the 10th Armed Forces Day celebration.
