Friday weather for New Forest and Christchurch: Met Office yellow warning for heavy rain and thunder

There’s a yellow warning in place for heavy rain and thunder across the area later today (Friday).

Up to 40mm could fall in some areas, the Met Office alert states, which also warns of possible flooding.

The warning is from 2pm to midnight, and highlights a “small chance” of frequent lightning and hail.

A Met Office spokesperson said: “Areas of heavy rain and some thunderstorms are likely to move northwards into south-west England and Wales on Friday afternoon and evening.”

Difficult driving conditions, road closures, cancellations to train and bus services, and power cuts were also possible, the Met Office said.
