WATCH: 'Read them and understand them' – Jackie Weaver features in New Forest District Council video
INTERNET sensation Jackie Weaver has partnered with New Forest District Council to urge residents to sign up to its email alerts.
Parodying the now-famous video of the Handforth Parish Council meeting – during which Jackie threw out two councillors after being told she had “no authority” – she says: “I’m Jackie Weaver and I have the authority to tell you to sign up to NFDC emails.
“They are full of information about coronavirus, local services and will tell you when council meetings will be shown online.”
The 38-second video featuring Jackie was released by NFDC on its Instagram, Facebook and YouTube pages on Wednesday.
Jackie has shot to fame since the video of her acting as clerk at a Handforth Parish Council Planning and Environment Committee meeting recently surfaced online.
Celebrities including broadcaster Piers Morgan and comic Richard Osman have tweeted links – and the hashtag of her name trended on Twitter after the footage of the meeting, held remotely via Zoom in December last year, was widely shared online.
It kicked off with members claiming she should not be acting as clerk and saw committee chairman Cllr Brian Tolver claim “You have no authority here, Jackie Weaver” before she put him in the virtual waiting area.
The committee vice-chairman Cllr Aled Brewerton then told her “I take charge” before screaming at her to “read and understand” the standing orders – only to be dumped in the same waiting room as Cllr Tolver.
That latter comment is also parodied by Jackie in the NFDC video.
Giving the link to the NFDC email sign up – at newforest.gov.uk/emails – Jackie added: “Read them and understand them… and keep the New Forest safe.”
