Met Office yellow weather warning of more heavy rain for New Forest and Christchurch this weekend

ANOTHER yellow weather alert has been issued for the weekend after downpours caused flooding in the New Forest and Christchurch.

The Met Office warned the heavy, and at times thundery, showers could bring more flooding and disruption between midnight on Saturday and 6am Sunday morning.

As reported by the A&T, several marooned drivers had to be rescued from water-logged roads at locations including Brockenhurst yesterday (Wednesday).

This followed a Met Office yellow warning for rain that morning and during the previous night, which was upgraded to amber at 6am.

Now, the national weather agency has said there is a “small chance” the further downpours could flood and damage homes and businesses, as well as result in loss of power and other services.

There is also a “slight chance” that flooding in some areas could lead to delays or cancellations to train and bus services.

A Met Office spokesperson said: “After a wet week, further heavy and at times thundery showers, will merge into longer spells of rain between early Saturday and Sunday morning.

“Many parts of the warning area will see 15-30mm, while the wettest spots, most likely close to English Channel coasts, could see 50-70mm.

“In addition, overnight Saturday into early Sunday, strong winds gusting 45-55mph are also probable along exposed parts of the English Channel coastline.”
