Lyndhurst Royal British Legion hopes D-Day 80 tribute will help it reach £100k fundraising goal

A MILITARY veterans’ charity is using web technology in its D-Day 80 tribute to try to meet a £100,000 fundraising target.

Sarah Davies of Lyndhurst’s Royal British Legion made a poppy display mounted on netting and draped it over a wall in Church Lane, Lyndhurst.

The display features a QR code which passers-by can scan with their smartphones to take them to a donations web page for the legion.

Sarah told the A&T the fundraising appeal currently stands around £2,500 short of its fundraising target of £100,000.

She said: “I created the poppy wall because I thought it would be nice to do something to commemorate D-Day 80 in the village.

“I thought it would be nice and eye-catching for people on their way in and out of the car park. It’s had lots of compliments from people on Facebook and I’ve heard passers-by stopping and commenting on it.

“I included the QR code on the wall because I thought it could help our quite small legion district to reach a £100,000.”

There will be a D-Day commemoration event at Lyndhurst’s football grounds from 1pm to 4pm on Saturday, 1st June. There is also a D-Day display at the New Forest Heritage Centre in the village.
