Weekend closure for New Milton station as rail replacement work starts

NEW Milton's railway station will be closed this weekend for track replacement as a raft of local engineering work starts.

Replacement buses will operate while 640 metres of line is replaced. Buses will run between Southampton Central and Bournemouth on Saturday, and between Southampton and Poole on Sunday.

On Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd November, new electrical equipment will be installed in Lymington and New Milton to improve supplies to trains running between Brockenhurst and Bournemouth. Rail-replacement buses will run between Southampton Airport Parkway and Bournemouth.

Ballast will also be replaced and track improved between Brockenhurst and Sway, alongside track drainage improvements between Ashurst New Forest and Beaulieu Road.

As well as this, engineers will work at three sites between New Milton and Christchurch to reduce ‘wet beds’ – sections of track where ballast and sleepers become saturated by water, which can lead to track defects and train delays.
