Weekly Covid update – 22 deaths in the New Forest
THERE were 22 new coronavirus deaths in the New Forest, according to the latest weekly update.
The death toll in the district included 10 in care homes and 11 in hospital, said the Office for National Statistics (ONS) in its report on Tuesday.
In the BCP Council area, which includes Christchurch, there were 77 fatalities recorded over the same seven days, including 34 in care homes.
The latest provisional figures from the ONS related to instances where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate up to 5th February but were registered up to 13th February.
Previously reported numbers can change after being updated by the ONS.
The number of new weekly cases of Covid-19 in the New Forest on Tuesday was 177, according to government figures – down from 232 last week and 345 the week before.
It gave an infection rate of 98.3 per 100,000 people – well below the UK rate of 142. The highest rate was Corby, Northamptonshire, with 347.6.
In the BCP conurbation the number of new weekly cases was 663 – just over half last week’s level of 1,153. The rate per 100,000 people was 167.7.
The infection figures are for the numbers of people with at least one lab-confirmed positive Covid-19 test result in the preceding seven days.
