Lymington Junior School maintains good Ofsted rating
LYMINGTON Junior School continues to be ‘good’, according to Ofsted inspectors.
Following a two-day assessment in June, inspectors said pupils are “proud to attend this welcoming, inclusive school” in Avenue Road.
The school, which has 250 pupils aged seven to 11, was praised for understanding and valuing the “importance of equality and treating everyone with kindness”.
Inspectors wrote: “Pupils behave well and delight in learning and working together.
“Bullying is rare and not tolerated by leaders, who take effective action when any concerns are raised.
“In class, pupils are eager to try their best because of the high expectations staff have.
“Playtimes and lunchtimes are pleasant, social times. Pupils look forward to coming to school and the vast majority attend regularly.”
Arrangements for safeguarding at the school were described as “effective”.
Highlighting an area for improvement, inspectors said assessment at the school is “not used consistently well and is not yet fully effective”.
The report added: “This means that teachers do not always plan next steps for future teaching.
“It also hinders how teachers plan to recap and review gaps in pupils’ knowledge.
“Leaders need to establish a clearer approach to checking and closing the gaps in learning so that pupils know and remember more across the whole school curriculum.”
Responding to the Ofsted inspectors’ findings, head teacher Dan Twyman said: “We are very pleased with the outcome of our latest inspection. It reflects the wide range of opportunities, welcoming ethos and great teamwork that characterise our school.
“I am incredibly proud of our wonderful children and amazing staff team.”
