Bransgore Village Fun Day crowds enjoyed dazzling display of vintage vehicles, charity stands and children’s attractions

CLASSIC cars, daring BMX displays and dog agility demos were some of the highlights at Bransgore’s slightly soggy annual village fun day.

Despite the bank holiday rain, hundreds turned out to enjoy the popular event, organised by Bransgore Rotary Club. Although takings were down on last year, organisers estimate it raised around £2,300 which will be used to support local good causes and community infrastructure such as the village’s festive lights.

Rotary Club fun day chair Martin Bowles: “We always do well out of sponsorship from local businesses for the programme and also the sale of raffle tickets so, despite the weather, it wasn’t a wash out.”

“Although it’s wonderful if we can raise some money for the local community, the main aim of the fun day is about getting the village together and showcasing local charities and stalls.”

As well as a dazzling display of vintage vehicles, attendees also enjoyed live music and food-and-drink stalls, charity stands and children’s attractions such as face painting and stilt walkers.

The event was officially opened by BBC South Today presenter and reporter Edward Sault, who lives locally. The programme of main arena entertainment included Zumba Gold with Karina; daredevil shows from the BMX Urban Displays team, family workout challenges led by Gym Tin; and the Christchurch Gun Dog display team. Children enjoyed fairground attractions, a circus skills workshop, face painting and obstacle races.

Mr Bowles added: “The weather was obviously very disappointing but we were very pleased with the number of people who turned out to enjoy the fun day.

“I would like to thank Edward Sault for opening the event and for all the entertainment organisers, stall holders, classic car owners and volunteers who came along and go involved despite the weather.”
