Woman in her 90s airlifted from car collision with 'serious injuries'
AN elderly woman from New Milton is fighting for her life after she was airlifted to hospital following a collision with a car.
The victim, who is in her 90s, sustained serious injuries in the incident with a BMW 318 just after 7pm last night (Wednesday) in Charminster Road, Bournemouth.
She had been a passenger in a blue Vauxhall Astra car which she got out of shortly before the collision near to the Broadway roundabout, Dorset police said.
Medics from South Western Ambulance Service attended the scene in Charminster Road and she was flown to Southampton General Hospital by helicopter.
A police spokesperson said the woman sustained “serious injuries” and was in a critical condition. Her family has been informed.
The driver of the BMW, a Bournemouth man aged in his 50s, was arrested on suspicion of driving offences and has been released under investigation.
Insp. Joe Pardey, of Dorset Police traffic unit, said: “Our thoughts are with the injured woman and her family at this time and we are continuing our investigation to establish the full circumstances of this collision.
"I would urge any witnesses who have not already spoken to police to please contact us."
