Woodgreen 10-year-old raises funds for NHS in lockdown challenge

JOSEPH Mylius from Woodgreen has helped the NHS while in lockdown after completing a long-distance running challenge which raised over £1,000.

The 10-year-old set himself a task of running 100 miles during the national lockdown to support NHS staff at Salisbury District Hospital that were helping treat people that had been affected by Covid-19.

Running at least two miles per day between his home and the bridges that crossed the River Avon at Breamore, he aimed to increase his fitness and improve his personal best time so that he could continue to be part of the cross-country squad, school football team and at his club Fordingbridge Turks FC, once they resumed.

He combined this goal with a target to help others to support the NHS in their time of need.

Last Thursday, Joseph made the final run and on his return through the village, residents not only clapped for carers but also for his huge effort over the recent weeks, as he crossed the finishing line.

He also smashed his personal best time during his last outing after finishing in 12 minutes and three seconds, which was two minutes quicker than his first in April.

Joseph’s initial target was £100, but after capturing the hearts of the local community, his efforts have raised over £1,000, which will assist Salisbury District Hospital.

Upon finishing his final endeavour, his mother Vicky presented him with the Stars Appeal Super Hero 2020 medal on behalf of the charity.
