Local youngsters help police catch shoplifters who targeted Tesco Express on Langdown Lawn in Hythe

POLICE have praised young passers-by for helping detain two shoplifters seen fleeing a Hythe shop.

The pair were spotted leaving Tesco Express in Langdown Lawn with stolen goods by officers on patrol in the area on Tuesday.

Following a short pursuit they were detained and searched before all stolen items were returned to the store.

A police Facebook post afterwards said the suspects had been reported for summons to appear in court.

The post added: “A special thanks goes to three local young persons who assisted officers on scene in locating the suspects.”
