Investigation into suspicious gorse fire at Forest Front in Hythe after youths 'seen fleeing'




POLICE are investigating a suspicious gorse fire in Hythe amid reports of youngsters seen running from the scene.

The alarm was raised around 11.45am on Sunday as flames engulfed a section of gorse and bush at Forest Front.

Firefighters from Hardley contained the emergency within half an hour, using jets and beaters.

A post on the station’s Twitter account afterwards said: “Fire cause doubtful and youths seen fleeing by members of the public.”

Officers attended, and a spokesperson for the Hampshire force confirmed the fire was being treated as suspicious.
