Letter: A35 shouldn't have to close during Holmsley bridge work

SIR – May I respond to the letters published referring to road works along the A31 and A35?

I agree, they do seem ridiculous road closures on both main roads through the New Forest.

In respect of the A31, at Ringwood will three lanes along such a short distance, make any difference? I can not see how it can.

From the Salisbury Road flyover, all roads in the other directions remain the same. Any hold-ups will still be there.

We the taxpayer will again have paid for all the, probably, useless widening.

As for Holmsley, why is traffic from the sliproads off Station Road (C10), from Burley, not diverted over the A35 onto the sliproad towards Brockenhurst, using traffic lights which are there anyway to control the amount of traffic over the existing bridge?

The old bridge, we thought, would stay in use whilst the new one is put into place.

In other words, the C10 could have stayed open. The A35 could be left open.

Richard Grant,
Burley
