Letter: Consider the feelings of our brilliant GPs
SIR – In contrast to national media horror stories and condemnation of GP services during and after the pandemic lockdown, I feel it appropriate to countermand these with the following praise.
Throughout these difficult times, all the reception staff and doctors at Sway and Brockenhurst surgeries have been nothing short of brilliant.
Despite the demands, it has always been possible to get an appointment both on the telephone and followed by face-to-face when necessary.
Following a recent face-to-face appointment with one of Sway's longstanding GPs, I commented that he "must find it funny seeing all the negative press when Sway and Brockenhurst do such a wonderful job".
His response was: "Thank you for your kind words but I don't find it funny. Some of the criticism is really upsetting."
I can still see the look of sadness etched on his face.
Maybe it is time for us all to reflect on how fortunate we are to have such wonderful GP surgeries and to consider the feelings of these wonderful people that work tirelessly to treat us when sick.
Wishing all GPs and their teams everywhere a very happy Christmas and hope for a better 2022.
