Letter: Disgusted by New Forest resident’s ‘wimpish males’ comments
I WAS disappointed and rather disgusted to read the letter ‘Whimpish males no good for war’ (29th March) unfortunately it was clearly written by somebody of my generation.
Your writer remained anonymous not having the courage to put their name to their unconsidered and ignorant thoughts.
Clearly they did not see the courage and determination displayed by the young men and women in Saturday’s university boat race. Nor do they follow and support the many young people who play and participate in all manner of sports on the water and our playing fields. They are regularly demonstrating courage and determination in challenging situations.
Yes there are always a few in every generation who do not appear to value our society and probably feel abandoned by it.
The majority of young people are energetic, ambitious and considerate. They value our society and I’m confident would defend it with as much courage and determination as previous generation have.

I WAS shocked and sickened by the rant in last week’s paper titled ‘Wimpish males no good for war’.
This is extremely malicious, cruel and spiteful. It is also sexist. You need to take a long, hard look at your offensive attitude and I am not surprised you hide behind anonymity.
However, I am not alone in recognising your personal style and phraseology of writing. You should be ashamed.
What a pity the ducking stool is no longer in use at Christchurch and that the scold’s bridle has fallen out of use.
