Letter: Do Just Stop Oil protestors practice what they preach?
I was wondering: do the Stop the Oil protesters practice what they preach? How dedicated are they? Even vegetarians are passionate in what they believe in.
It brought to mind in the recent water shortage where we had to go and collect the plastic bottled water in shrinkwrap coverings – would they not collect it as it’s in a product that is a derivative of oil?
Then there is the aspect of cars, a product of oil-based products, tyres, plastics, and then is it fuelled by petrol or diesel and, of course, the metal requires fossil fuels to produce it. Do they go by horse and cart? Will we have to go back to quill pens as biros and pens are plastic? Mobile phones and computers... the list goes on and on and on.
Yes we do have too much plastic packaging, and fuel is on the agenda, but we will need oil and gas for years to come, so why not use our own reserves instead of transporting it halfway round the world?
So instead of disrupting people’s live and enjoyment and causing more pollution with their actions, work constructively in campaigning to lesson the use of oil-based products.
Oil is not just something they produce fuel from for vehicles, it is a byproduct, there are so many other things that we rely on that are derived from oil and gas.
