Letter: Estate agent's disgusting dealing
SIR – Recently I was in an estate agents and had the misfortune, whilst waiting to be served, to listen to a conversation that made me so mad, but also heartbroken!
The agent was on a call and said: “I realise that you have accepted the offer and it is all in the hands of the solicitor but this chap is offering £30,000 more. It’s a second home and he’s a cash buyer – you may even be able to push him for a bit more. I know I probably shouldn’t be telling you this..."
I truly thought this awful practice had stopped. The poor original buyer who already thinks that everything is going through – paying for solicitors etc – quite happily unaware that this disgusting dealing was going on behind their backs!
Please don’t try to tell me the agent was just trying to get the best deal for the seller. It is just pure and utter greed all round; for another house to sit unoccupied for most of the year and our young local families being forced out.
I am still absolutely fuming now. That agent probably really loves his job but he sure has no conscience whatsoever.
