Letter: Lymington is being ruined by flats for elderly

SIR – There is something badly wrong in Lymington (as no doubt in other towns) when the planners appear to have no decisions over the type of houses being built.

They have to kowtow to government planning rules.

Lymington is being ruined by blocks of flats built for old people. A number of these flats are still empty; this seems ridiculous.

As for the plans for the police station (A&T, 31st March), when we are advocating more police on the streets, this seems completely potty.

As an ex-magistrate, we need more police stations not less.

Please use common sense and stop this ludicrous idea of planning. The planners appear to not care about local opinion, so who do they think they are representing?

Do not ruin this town for a government's outdated and pig-headed policy.

The ghastly houses down by the railway line are monstrously ugly, badly laid out and seem to be disliked by everyone.

Is this democracy?
